01 Positioning & Levelling
Position and level the caravan on the pitch

Assess pitch for slope, hookup points, and hazards
Consider wind direction, sun position, and access to facilities

Position caravan on pitch
Door away from prevailing wind if possible

Check side-to-side level with spirit level

Place levelling ramps if needed and drive onto them
Always drive forward onto ramps, never reverse

Apply handbrake once level Safety-critical

Chock wheels on both sides Safety-critical
Essential on any slope
02 Unhitching
Safely disconnect caravan from tow vehicle

Confirm caravan handbrake is applied Safety-critical

Lower jockey wheel to firm ground contact Safety-critical

Disconnect 13-pin electrical plug

Disconnect breakaway cable from towbar

Raise hitch coupling release lever Safety-critical

Wind jockey wheel to lift hitch off towball Safety-critical

Drive tow car away from caravan

Adjust front-to-back level with jockey wheel

Lower all four corner steadies until firm contact Safety-critical
Do not overtighten; steadies stabilise, they do not lift
03 Electrical Connection
Connect to campsite mains power

Ensure caravan consumer unit / RCD is off Safety-critical

Fully uncoil EHU cable Safety-critical
Never leave coiled; heat buildup causes fire risk

Connect EHU cable to caravan inlet first Safety-critical
Always connect to caravan before bollard

Connect EHU cable to site bollard

Switch on caravan RCD / consumer unit
-
Test RCD by pressing test button Safety-critical
RCD should trip when tested, then reset
04 Water System
Set up fresh and waste water

Fill fresh water container at service point

Connect water supply to caravan inlet
-
Ensure all drain-down valves are closed
-
Switch on water pump
-
Prime cold water by running each tap until flow
Start from the tap furthest from the inlet

Prime hot water by running each hot tap
Expect gurgling as air purges from the system

Check for leaks under sinks and under caravan
-
Position grey waste container under outlet
05 Gas & Heating
Connect gas supply and start appliances

Open gas cylinder valve
-
Turn on interior gas isolation valve
-
Test hob briefly to confirm gas flow
Check for a clean blue flame
-
Switch on fridge
Mains electric preferred when on hookup

Switch on water heater
Only after water system is confirmed full

Switch on space heating if needed
06 Exterior Setup
Set up outdoor living space

Deploy caravan entry step

Set up outdoor furniture
07 Interior Setup
Prepare the living space and verify systems

Prepare toilet cassette with chemicals
Add blue chemical per instructions and top with water

Test smoke alarm Safety-critical

Test carbon monoxide alarm Safety-critical

Note fire point location and emergency numbers

Verify all systems: kettle, hot water, fridge, toilet
